The Faculty of Social Sciences at IMSU

The Faculty of Social Sciences (FOSS) at Imo State University (IMSU), Owerri, Nigeria, is one of the foremost faculties at IMSU. As a distinguished faculty in academic research, FOSS is dedicated to advancing knowledge in the fields of social and behavioural sciences. Over the years, FOSS has built a strong reputation for promoting research, innovation, and academic excellence, with the aim of addressing local, national, and global challenges.

FOSS journals are scholarly refereed, open-accesses, high-quality, and peer-reviewed journals in all social and behavioural sciences fields utilising multi-dimensional research approaches in the conduct of scholarly inquiry. These approaches include theoretical, empirical, and experimental methods.

Our goal is to create a robust and inclusive platform for researchers, scholars, and practitioners to share knowledge, collaborate, and contribute to solving pressing social and behavioural issues. Through these journals, we strive to promote excellence in research, uphold ethical standards, and ensure the dissemination of valuable insights to a global audience.

Information for Authors

Manuscript Preparation Guidelines

  • Formatting: Manuscripts must be prepared using Microsoft Word, formatted on A4-sized paper, with 1-inch margins on all sides. The text should be double-spaced and written in 12-point Times New Roman font.
  • Length: Articles should not exceed 25 pages (8,000 words), including tables, figures, and references. .
  • Content Structure: The manuscript should include:
    • A cover page with the title of the paper and author details (name, affiliation,
      email, and phone number). The authors' names must be clearly stated in the correct order (i.e., first name, middle name, and surname) with institutional addresses, email addresses, and phone contact provided as well.
    • An abstract of no more than 250 words summarising the purpose, methods, findings, and significance of the study.
    • The main body of the manuscript, including an introduction, methodology, results, discussion, and conclusion.
    • Tables, figures, and diagrams numbered sequentially and referred to in the text.
    • References must be formatted according to APA 7th Edition guidelines.

Submission Process

  • Manuscripts can be submitted via email to fossjournals@gmail.com or ajsbs2016@gmail.com, which will guide authors through the process.
  • Submissions must include all required documents and adhere to the journal's formatting rules to proceed to the review stage.

Review Process

  • All submissions undergo a rigorous double-blind peer review process to ensure unbiased evaluation.
  • Reviewers are selected based on their expertise in the subject area of the manuscript.
  • Feedback is provided to authors, and manuscripts may be accepted, revised, or rejected based on the reviewers’ recommendations.

Manuscript Format

A4 paper, 1-inch margins, Times New Roman 12pt, double-spaced, maximum 25 pages

Ethical Standards

Authors must ensure their work is original and free from plagiarism.

Proper acknowledgement must be given to all sources, and ethical approval must be secured for studies involving human or animal participants.

Conflicts of interest must be disclosed, and authors are required to adhere to the highest ethical standards in research and publication.

Peer Review

Manuscripts are anonymised and sent to at least two reviewers for a thorough evaluation. Reviewers assess submissions based on originality, methodology, clarity, and relevance to the journal’s focus.

Publication Fees

A non-refundable review fee of ₦10,000 (or equivalent in USD for international authors) is required upon submission.

Upon acceptance, a publication fee of ₦25,000 (or equivalent in USD for international authors) must be paid before the article is published.

Initial Assessment

Editorial team reviews submissions for formatting, scope, and quality requirements before peer review.

Peer Review

Manuscripts undergo double-blind review by subject experts for thorough evaluation.

Reviewer Recommendation

Reviewers recommend one of the following outcomes:

  • Accept: The manuscript is ready for publication.
  • Minor Revisions: The manuscript requires small adjustments to meet publication standards.
  • Major Revisions: Substantial changes are needed, and the revised manuscript must be reviewed again.
  • Reject: The manuscript does not meet the standards for publication.
